DeepOcean Subsea Decommissioning
RECOVERY
Description
Various items are required to be recovered during a decommissioning project, e.g. chain and/or wire mooring lines; risers and umbilicals; floating buoys; concrete mattresses and blocks; and different sized steel structures from smaller supports weighing no more than a few hundred kilos to larger ones of many tons.
Scope of Work
To achieve successful recovery, purpose made tooling may be required to be engineered: A lifting device will often be the safest and most efficient means for recovery of steel risers, e.g. clamps may be used for umbilicals and wires. Wire slings provide many options for steel structure recoveries. Also, purpose tooling for old, possibly damaged, and non-certified items, e.g. concrete blocks, must be made.
Prior to commencement, a well pre-planned activity and operational method is established. Focus on deck capacity and vessel layout is fundamental. Deck equipment (e.g. reels, winches, special cranes) and ROV tooling is usually purchased and mobilized. Calculations on object dimensions with respect to length and weight, etc., are prepared for recovery through splash zone for different weather conditions. Heavy lifts offshore are planned thoroughly before being executed.
